Werner Herzog is a German director and cinema auteur recognized for his distinct artistic vision and surreal film projects.
Herzog recently directed the surreal drama Bucking Fastard, which stars real-life sisters Kate Mara and Rooney Mara alongside Orlando Bloom. Herzog recruited the Mara sisters for their first onscreen collaboration together by mailing them a joint physical letter. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival, where it received a six-and-a-half-minute standing ovation from audience members.
In addition to festival showcases, Herzog dedicated his new feature to the memory of the late director David Lynch, explaining in interviews that staying in touch had grown difficult in Lynch's later years due to his absorption in transcendental meditation. Herzog was also selected to receive the Donostia Award at the 74th San Sebastián Film Festival.
