Rooney Mara

Rooney Mara is an Oscar-nominated actress recognized for her distinct performances in psychological thrillers, prestige studio features, and surreal auteur cinema. She gained widespread critical acclaim for her breakout leading performance in David Fincher's 2011 dark crime adaptation The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

Throughout her career, Mara has built a reputation for choosing complex and unconventional cinematic projects across both mainstream streaming catalog titles and independent film circuits. In 2026, she starred alongside her real-life sister, Kate Mara, in director Werner Herzog's surreal feature Bucking Fastard, marking the very first onscreen pairing of the acting sisters in their professional careers. The duo was personally recruited by the legendary German auteur through a joint handwritten letter pitched directly to them.

In Bucking Fastard, Mara portrays one of two intensely codependent sisters who move, speak, and navigate daily life in total unison. The film debuted to strong reaction on the festival circuit, earning Mara and her sister a six-and-a-half-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival and further discussion at the Toronto International Film Festival.
