Mastodon

Mastodon is an Atlanta-born heavy metal band featuring drummer and co-vocalist Brann Dailor and guitarist Nick Johnston. The group established itself as a major force in heavy music with releases including the album Hushed And Grim and its successor, Marrow Deep.

The band experienced significant internal and personal upheaval following the separation from founding lead guitarist and co-vocalist Brent Hinds. Nick Johnston joined the lineup as guitarist after Hinds departed. Months after his exit, Hinds tragically died in a motorcycle accident, and his estate subsequently filed a lawsuit against the band one year later.

Despite personal grief, including Dailor mourning both Hinds and his own mother, Mastodon expanded their creative footprint with the release of Marrow Deep in August 2026. The band continues to engage fans through surprise intimate performances, such as a secret Atlanta warmup gig at The Earl featuring Baroness frontman John Baizley, while showcasing eclectic artistic influences ranging from pop to avant-garde music.
