Monster

Monster is a popular true-crime anthology television series created by Ryan Murphy for Netflix. The hit streaming franchise captures global audiences by dramatizing the lives, crimes, and eventual trials of history's most infamous figures, transitioning between different historical scandals and criminal cases across its seasons.

Coverage of the series highlights its intense psychological storytelling and the demanding nature of its roles. Actor Charlie Hunnam starred as serial killer Ed Gein in a Netflix chapter, later noting that immersing himself in the dark persona blurred lines between fiction and reality and caused friction at home with his long-term partner Morgana McNelis.

The franchise is expanding its creative scope by moving into historical true crime with Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, marking its first female-led focus around the 19th-century double-axe murder case in Massachusetts. Emmy-winning actress Sarah Paulson has also joined the franchise to play notorious Florida highway sex worker and serial killer Aileen Wuornos.
