According to reports from the venue, the impromptu performance came together just hours before showtime. Sheeran explained to the audience that the last-minute team-up was hatched while both pop stars happened to be hanging out in nearby New York City earlier in the day. Addressing the packed stadium, the British singer-songwriter gushed about his deep bond with Cabello, noting that genuine friendships are rare to come by in the entertainment industry. He shared that he and Cabello have maintained a strong connection for over a decade, making the decision to share the stage a no-brainer once he realized she was in town.

Their surprise appearance at MetLife Stadium is far from their first musical team-up. Beyond their 2022 track, the former Fifth Harmony member and the multi-Grammy winner previously joined forces on the 2019 single "South of the Border." Both artists have frequently spoken about their mutual admiration and creative chemistry over the years. Sheeran is scheduled to return to the East Rutherford venue for a second night as his high-profile stadium tour continues across North America.
