Courtney Love Flips Addison Rae’s Pop Hit ‘Diet Pepsi’ Into A Melancholy Jam

Courtney Love is giving the current generation of pop stars a huge stamp of approval in the most unexpected way possible. The legendary Hole frontwoman surprised fans by releasing an emotional, stripped-down cover of Addison Rae’s massive hit single "Diet Pepsi." Instead of keeping the original track's flirty, dance-pop production, the alternative rock icon completely flipped the energy. Love uploaded a video of her slow, moody rendition to Instagram, replacing the track's playful vocal style with her signature raw, plaintive delivery. While music listeners usually treat the bouncy tune as a breezy summer anthem from Rae's 2025 debut project *Addison*, Love picked up on a totally different emotional wavelength. She openly dubbed the catchy pop cut the "saddest song" while revealing her brooding acoustic interpretation.

This unexpected crossover marks another moment in a recent series of genre-bending interactions between grunge veterans and modern pop artists. Pop star Slayyyter recently delivered her own intense cover of Hole’s legendary 1994 rock track "Violet" for Australia’s triple J *Like A Version* series. Love enthusiastically applauded that performance on social media, praising the new spin on her classic song as "delightful."

Love's passion for reshaping mainstream songs aligns with her long-standing fascination with the mechanics of commercial pop. In vintage interviews, the singer famously explained how diving into mainstream projects in music is far more personal and complex than taking roles in Hollywood films, comparing her musical control to that of a film director shaping an entire vision. By stripping "Diet Pepsi" down to its bare bones, Love proved that great songwriting transcends genre boundaries. Fans of both artists are currently flooding social media with praise, hoping this viral moment leads to an actual studio link-up between the 1990s rock trailblazer and the modern pop sensation.
