Camilo Séptimo Keyboardist Jonathan Meléndez Killed In Mexico City Home Invasion Along With Family

The Latin music community is in mourning following devastating news out of Mexico. Camilo Séptimo keyboardist Jonathan Meléndez was killed inside his Mexico City residence alongside members of his household in a horrific home invasion attack. The musician was 38 years old. According to reports from CNN citing Mexican law enforcement, the victims of the tragedy include Meléndez, his 35-year-old pregnant wife, Ana Paula, their three-year-old daughter, and the family's 21-year-old nanny, Aleida Romero Victorio. The family's pet dog was also bound and slain during the incident.

Law enforcement officials revealed disturbing details regarding the scene inside the home. Authorities reported that three of the victims were found tied up and shot in the head, while a fourth victim died from a gunshot wound to the back. In a harrowing turn of events, a six-year-old boy was discovered alive and unharmed inside the residence after the perpetrators fled. Reports state that a business associate of the keyboardist, identified in prosecutor filings as Diego Sebastián “N,” has been arrested as the suspected primary perpetrator. Law enforcement alleges that he utilized his existing relationship with Meléndez to enter the residence before the violent attack began. A second suspect, identified by authorities as Gerardo “N,” is also in custody and under active investigation for his alleged involvement in the homicides.
