Remarkably Bright Creatures

Remarkably Bright Creatures is a Netflix original drama film and screen adaptation. Set against a Pacific Northwest backdrop, the production was shot on location in Canada and debuted on the streaming platform in May. The narrative presents an unconventional dynamic centered around its lead characters.

The film stars Sally Field as Tova Sullivan, placing her front and center alongside an extraordinary aquatic co-star, a giant Pacific octopus. The cast also includes co-star Lewis Pullman, with cinematographer Ashley Connor praised for transforming the Pacific Northwest environment into a vivid narrative element throughout the story.

The project achieved historic acclaim at the Primetime Emmy Awards when Sally Field won the award for Outstanding Actress in a TV Movie or Limited Series. At 79 years old, Field became the oldest lead actress winner in the category's history, narrowly surpassing a long-standing record held by Jessica Tandy since 1987. Upon accepting her award, Field used her speech to commend the Canadian production team and speak out on industry consolidation and international tariffs.
