Last Week Tonight

Last Week Tonight is a hit late-night television broadcast on HBO hosted by comedian John Oliver. Airing on Sunday nights, the show features Oliver delivering monologues and humorous breakdowns of current events, public figures, and pop culture topics. The Emmy-winning presenter regularly examines political news and media trends using a mix of satire, commentary, and investigative recaps.

Coverage of the series highlights its focus on political commentary and public figures. On recent episodes, Oliver used his platform to mock Donald Trump after an aircraft switch stranded members of his personal entourage following a NATO summit in Turkey. The show also targeted Transportation Secretary nominee Sean Duffy, dragging the former politician over his MTV background on The Real World: Boston and his self-produced six-episode reality video series uploaded to YouTube.

Beyond political commentary, the program frequently includes playful personal updates and entertainment coverage. The show documented Oliver's personal goal of breaking into daytime television, which he dubbed his hot soap summer. After securing guest spots on two daytime dramas, Oliver brought the footage back to the broadcast, lightheartedly critiquing his own dramatic acting skills for the audience.
