Billy Strings

Billy Strings is a Grammy-winning bluegrass musician, singer, and virtuosic guitarist known for his lightning-fast acoustic flatpicking and jam-band style. Originating from Michigan, the chart-topping artist has built a massive audience by bridging traditional roots sounds with high-energy live performances and varied genre influences.

Long before rising to prominence in the roots and bluegrass scenes, the musician developed his musical skills by performing in heavy metal bands during his youth. He demonstrated his enduring affection for extreme heavy music at the Ionia Freak Fair, a multi-day festival he organized in his hometown of Ionia, Michigan, where he took the stage alongside Montreal technical death metal band Cryptopsy.

In August 2026, Strings released his fifth full-length studio album, So Much for Goodbyes, delivering 16 tracks focused on loss, family, and fresh beginnings. The personal record followed his September 2024 album Renewal and captured an intense period in his life that included welcoming his first child as well as grieving the tragic death of his mother.
