Throughout the production process, Gibney noted that prospective sources faced intense existential anxiety and potential professional fallout regarding their participation. The project includes explosive accounts from Elon Musk's ex-wife Justine Musk and influencer Ashley St. Clair, who turned down a multi-million-dollar non-disclosure agreement to speak on camera. Following aggressive social media attacks and formal legal threats from the Tesla founder, Gibney stated that the billionaire completely stopped communication despite open invitations to sit down for an interview.
