The new DC Universe is expanding its animated roster with two major Hollywood names. Josh Hutcherson and Mackenzie Davis have officially signed on to lead the upcoming animated adaptation of *Mister Miracle*. The project brings one of DC Comics' most celebrated modern storylines into the multimedia universe being spearheaded by DC Studios co-heads Peter Safran and James Gunn. Hutcherson will voice Scott Free, the master escape artist better known as Mister Miracle. Davis is set to star opposite him as Big Barda, the formidable warrior powerhouse and Scott’s longtime partner. The series takes its inspiration directly from writer Tom King’s critically acclaimed, award-winning comic run, adapting the complex cosmic saga for television audiences.
Who Are Scott Free and Big Barda?
Legendary comic creator Jack Kirby first introduced both characters to the world back in 1971 across the early issues of *Mister Miracle*. Within DC lore, Scott Free is the son of Highfather, the supreme ruler of the utopian world New Genesis. In a desperate bid to broker peace and halt a devastating cosmic war, Highfather struck a grim pact with Darkseid, the tyrannical master of the fiery planet Apokolips. The two rulers traded infant sons, sending Scott to be raised in the brutal, nightmarish pits of Apokolips while Darkseid's child, Orion, was fostered on New Genesis. Scott endured unimaginable torment growing up under Darkseid’s regime but ultimately used his unmatched cunning to break free from his captors. During his harrowing upbringing, he crossed paths with Big Barda, an elite commander leading Darkseid’s lethal strike force, the Female Furies. Barda turned against her dark masters, fell in love with Scott, and fled alongside him.

What Can Fans Expect From the Animated Series?
After escaping the horrors of Apokolips, Scott and Barda relocated to Earth, carving out a domestic life while balancing their responsibilities as legendary escape performers and active superheroes. Both characters eventually joined the ranks of the Justice League, using their cosmic heritage and unique abilities to defend the universe from catastrophic threats. The animated production will dig deep into the psychological layers and domestic dynamics explored in King's landmark comic run. Casting Hutcherson and Davis signals DC Studios' commitment to landing top-tier talent for animated entries in the interconnected franchise, giving Scott and Barda an emotional weight that matches their storied comic legacy.
