Cynthia Erivo is taking on another heavyweight historical role. The award-winning performer has officially joined the cast of the upcoming Snoop Dogg biographical feature, reports confirm. She is set to portray Afeni Shakur, the prominent Black Panther Party activist and mother of hip-hop legend Tupac Shakur. While Erivo has not yet spoken publicly about the casting decision, her attachment adds serious dramatic heft to an already star-studded ensemble. The biographical project, first unveiled in 2022, is designed to serve as the definitive big-screen chronicling of Snoop Dogg's ascent from Long Beach hopeful to international rap royalty.
Who Else Stars in the Snoop Dogg Film?
The production has assembled an extensive roster of young talent to recreate West Coast rap's most influential era. *Outer Banks* standout Jonathan Daviss leads the film as Snoop Dogg himself. Rising actor Camron Jones is stepping into the shoes of Tupac Shakur, setting the stage for scenes opposite Erivo as his fiercely protective mother. Key figures from the Death Row Records dynasty will also be heavily featured throughout the narrative. Myles Bullock has been tapped to portray super-producer Dr. Dre, while Tre Hale steps into the boots of formidable record executive Suge Knight. The ensemble expands further with Algee Smith as Warren G, Corey Champagne as Nate Dogg, and Olly Sholotan playing Kurupt. The film also prioritizes the personal lives behind the music. Lauren London will depict Snoop's late mother, Beverly Tate, while Laya DeLeon Hayes takes on the role of his longtime wife, Shante Broadus. Jonica Booth rounds out the supporting circle as hip-hop pioneer The Lady of Rage.

When Does the Biopic Hit Theaters?
Behind the camera, seasoned director Craig Brewer is steering the ship. The filmmaker is bringing the rapper's raw, unvarnished history to the screen without pulling punches. Snoop previously teased the project's gritty tone on social media, assuring fans that the cinematic portrait will carry an R rating. Moviegoers will not have to wait indefinitely to see the saga unfold on the big screen.
